Craps

Craps is the name of a dice game in which two players playing against each other compete in a type of gamble over the outcome of the throw of the dice. Players can bet on their prediction of the outcome of one, or two dices or a combination of throws of the dice.

The game, because of its infrastructural simplicity and low investment costs is pretty popular on streets where it is known as “Street Craps” or “Private Craps”. The game is also played in the casino, where one or more people play against the casino’s ‘bank’. Here it is known as the “Casino Craps”. In this type of setting, there is one person who rolls a pair of dices, he is known as the ‘shooter’. The shooter must bet the table minimum.

Casino Craps is played with special chips which are betted on the table. There are always at least four casino employees stationed at the table at any time, a Boxman whose responsibility is basically to guard the chips and the security over the table; two Base Dealers who collect and pays the chips and bets; and, a Stickman whose work include collecting dices after rolls, announcing the results, etc. The employees also make sure that the game is played fairly by inspecting the die regularly and making sure the fair practices are followed.

Any shooter is only allowed to use one hand to handle the dice. A roll which doesn’t hit the farthest wall or at least reach half the table is often not considered official. The dealers are also not allowed to touch or hand chips directly to the players also for security reasons.

There can be different types of wagers in the game:

a) Line Bets, which further include Pass Line and Don’t Pass Line bets, Come or Don’t Come be, etc.

b) Single Rolls bets

c) Multi Rolls bet

d) Player Bets

There can be card variations of the game also. Street Crap, when done with real money instead of cash can be illegal even in the countries where gambling in casinos is otherwise legal.
